On Track in Pomona

Today I had the opportunity to present the usage statistics and data collection and gaps analysis results for pomonafamilyresources.org to the City of Pomona Youth and Family Master Plan (YFMP) committee. Interesting among the findings is that the site has been effective at reaching out to those the YFMP committee intended to target, youth and people living in families. Specifically, the site has been heavily utilized by especially low-income individuals, with about 80% of the users having incomes 30% of the median family income for the City of Pomona. Also, 41.9% of the users, according the McKinney-Vento federal definition of homelessness, are considered homeless.

The McKinney-Vento definition includes those who live in motels and with friends and family due to economic hardship, as well as those who live on the streets or in shelters. I am encouraged by the fact that those who need this great system most are taking advantage of the resources the site has to offer. I am optimistic that we will be able to continue to inform more people about this system and match those experiencing crisis to the resources they need.
